KWatersGGI LifeStyle #MetGalla 2019

Monday night’s may 6st camp-themed Met Gala in New York was a visual spectacle — see Cardi B in a blood-red Thom Browne gown with a three-metre train, Billy Porter in a bejewelled gold catsuit complete with wings by The Blonds and Lady Gaga in no less than four outfits — and a subtle subversion of the sartorial norms that typically govern red carpets. The departure from the norm was apt, because what is camp if not a reexamination of existing hierarchies?

Fashion podcasts are also a subversion, one could say, of the industry’s highly visual status quo. In today’s edition, New York-based contributor Adrienne Gaffney explores why fashion houses from Chanel to Coach are investing in audio and if podcasts are worth it. (So far, the results are mixed.)

Elsewhere, British GQ editor in chief Dylan Jones speaks to Lauren Indvik about its growing events business, which will see the launch of its first paid-for event this week at Soho Farmhouse. And Ralph & Russo’s Tamara Ralph tells Vogue Business’s Lucy Maguire why Britain’s only accredited couture label has launched a specialised apprenticeship programme. (As with most things in Britain these days, it is partially to do with Brexit.)

Thank you for reading. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome. We’ll see you again on Thursday.
